A 54-year-old woman who confessed to stealing numerous items from a 92-year-old woman’s East Honolulu home was charged Sunday with theft.
Police said Mima Domingo went to the Honolulu Police Department’s main station Friday and confessed to taking the senior’s belongings. Police would not disclose the relationship between the two, but said Domingo was unrelated to the victim.
Police arrested Domingo on Friday afternoon on suspicion of second-degree theft.
Prosecutors charged her Sunday with second-degree theft. Her bail was set at $50,000.
Hitchhiker robbed by 2 men in vehicle
Police are looking for two men who robbed a 16-year-old boy who was hitchhiking in Waimanalo.
Police said the boy was hitchhiking at about 10:10 p.m. Saturday when he got a ride.
An unknown male suspect in the back seat threatened him with a dangerous instrument and took his belongings, police said.
The suspects fled the area.
40-foot fall off trail injures female hiker
A woman was hurt Saturday upon falling about 40 feet while hiking in the Koolau Mountains, firefighters said.
The woman was hiking with a man at about 12:30 p.m. when she fell from the trail that leads to the off-limits Haiku Stairs in Kaneohe, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins. She was on the trail that goes up the Moanalua side of the mountains and was not on the so-called “Stairway to Heaven.”
About 20 firefighters responded and reached the woman by helicopter at about 2 p.m. Firefighters picked her up in a helicopter and took her to Kaneohe District Park, where she was transferred to paramedics.
Her hiking partner was also taken to the landing zone, but was not hurt.
Alleged thief arrested in heist at crash site
A 32-year-old man was arrested Friday after a good Samaritan had his backpack stolen while helping the victims of an overturned vehicle in Chinatown.
The suspect, of no local address, was arrested at about 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of North King and Smith streets for investigation of second-degree theft and second-degree conspiracy to commit identity theft.
Randy Gonce, the good Samaritan, said on his Facebook page that he saw the accident at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday on North King Street near Smith Street and put down his bag to help pull a family out of the vehicle.
Soon he realized his bag and its contents were missing, including his laptop, wallet, car keys, phone and term papers. Within 90 minutes the thief exhausted Gonce’s personal bank account.
Police said the suspect took Gonce’s property, then conspired with another individual to conduct fraudulent transactions using Gonce’s stolen credit cards at several nearby commercial establishments.
After the suspect’s arrest, Gonce said his belongings still had not been recovered by Friday.
Man held on warrant over drug promotion
Kauai police last week arrested a man on a grand jury bench warrant for multiple drug offenses.
Mark Christian, 49, was driving on Kuhio Highway near the old Hanamaulu Cafe on Wednesday when police pulled him over, Kauai County said by email.
He was arrested without incident on suspicion of promoting a dangerous drug and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia. A search of the vehicle turned up 3.7 grams of cocaine, 1.2 grams of methamphetamine, 12.4 grams of marijuana and dozens of other drugs, police said.
He was arraigned in Circuit Court on Thursday, and bail was set at $114,000.
Man accused of killing family’s dog
A 18-year-old man was arrested Saturday after a family dog was shot and killed in Ewa Beach, police said.
The dog, which belonged to a 34-year-old woman, was killed by an unknown projectile at about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Responding officers investigated and found the suspect at about 1:10 p.m. He was arrested at his Park Row home in Ewa Beach for investigation of first-degree cruelty to animals.
He was released at about 10 p.m. Saturday pending investigation.
Ambulance worker assaulted by patient
A 36-year-old Aliamanu man was arrested Saturday after he assaulted an Emergency Medical Services worker in an ambulance in Haleiwa, police said.
The man was being transported at about 8:10 p.m. when he assaulted the 35-year-old female worker, police said.
Officers arrested the man on Kamehameha Highway for investigation of second-degree assault.
Passenger assaults driver of a city bus
A 20-year-old man was arrested Saturday downtown after he assaulted a city bus driver who told him to stop smoking, police said.
The man attacked the 47-year-old male driver after the driver told him that smoking was not allowed on the bus, police said. The incident happened at about 7:20 p.m.
Police arrested the man, of no local address, on South Hotel Street on suspicion of interference with the operator of a public transit vehicle.
