Over a period of two weeks, one of Las Vegas’ biggest casino companies added three new properties in two separate deals. Boyd Gaming first purchased Aliante Casino + Hotel for $380 million, then added the Cannery and Eastside Cannery for another $230 million. Given that the three acquired casinos were built between 2003 and 2008 at a combined cost of more than $1.1 billion, by all accounts Boyd got a smokin’ deal.
Adding the two Cannerys and Aliante brings the number of Boyd casinos in southern Nevada to 12.
Buffet play: Get a two-for-one buffet at Silverton, good for brunch or dinner, every Sunday in May (except today). There’s no play necessary; just get a club card and print out a voucher at a kiosk.
Pub for Cantina: The Cantina Mexican restaurant at Tuscany, on Flamingo Road just east of the Strip, has closed. A new restaurant called Pub 365 is scheduled to take its place in July.
Airport jackpot: Who says the airport slots don’t hit? A Las Vegas woman took down a $933,080 jackpot at McCarran last month on a Wheel of Fortune machine.
No smoking: The Westgate SuperBook is now completely nonsmoking, and it isn’t alone. Other sports books in town with no-smoking policies include Venetian/Palazzo (including Lagasse’s Stadium), Tropicana, Cosmopolitan, Hard Rock, M Resort, Palms, Silverton, Aria and Luxor.
Question: Which casino is building the superhero attraction, and when will it open?
Answer: Marvel’s Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. (Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network) at Treasure Island hasn’t announced an opening date, but it’s expected before summer. Designed to be a “completely immersive and educational experience” that’s suitable for all ages, the exhibit will feature an extensive collection of costumes, weapons and other paraphernalia from Marvel-character movies. Tickets have been announced at $34 for adults and $24 for ages 4-11.
