Kaira Nabeshima of Japan shot a 2-over-par 74 on Saturday and will take a one-shot lead into today’s final round of the 66th Jennie K. Wilson Invitational at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Nabeshima went into Saturday’s round tied with Haruka Amamoto, also of Japan, after both shot even-par 72 on Friday. Nabeshima emerged with the 36-hole lead in the championship flight.
Kaiser’s Keila Baladad is four strokes out of the lead at 6-over 150. ‘Iolani’s Chloe Wong is fourth at 9 over.
Other division leaders going into the final round are Bobbi Kokx (A flight), Lisa Lee (B flight), Susan Awaya (C flight), Jean Hess (D flight) and Linda Quon (E flight).
Porlier-Langlois second in shot put
Hawaii’s Alex Porlier-Langlois finished second in the shot put at Saturday’s Big West Championship with a throw of 16.53 meters in Long Beach, Calif. It was her second runner-up finish at the meet after finishing second in Friday’s discus.
Hawaii’s Charlinda Ioane was seventh in the shot put with a throw of 14.30. Louise Mulvey placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 12.95 seconds. Robyn Brown was sixth in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.20. Brown helped Hawaii finish eighth in the 4×400 relay in 3:54.80. LeAnna Morrison rounded out Hawaii’s point scorers by placing sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.01.
The Rainbow Wahine finished eighth with 56 points. UC Davis claimed the team title with 135.50 points.
Kauai surfers advance at Oi Rio Pro
Kauai’s Malia Manuel and Tatiana Weston-Webb advanced to the quarterfinals of the Oi Rio Pro in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday.
Manuel ousted Australia’s Keely Andrew by a score of 13.10 to 11.50 and will face another Australian in Sally Fitzgibbons in the quarterfinals.
Weston-Webb edged California native Sage Erickson, the 2015 WSL Rookie of the Year, by a score of 13.24 to 13. Her quarterfinal opponent is current Jeep Rankings leader Courtney Conlogue of Santa Ana, Calif.
Hawaii coach James to speak at QB Club
University of Hawaii women’s track & field and cross country head coach Carmyn James is set to speak at the Honolulu Quarterback Club on Monday.
James recently completed her 15th season as the head coach of both programs and will discuss her career as well as the six athletes she signed for the 2016-17 season.
The luncheon will take place at the Maple Garden Restaurant and costs $16 per person. Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m. and the program begins at noon.
