A fire destroyed three boats moored at the Ko Olina Marina on Friday.

Firefighters responding to a 4:06 p.m. emergency call arrived at the marina to find the three adjacent vessels engulfed in flames.

Twenty-eight firefighters from eight fire companies responded to the blaze, which was brought under control by 4:37 p.m. and fully extinguished by 5:06 p.m.

Two men were on one of the vessels when the fire broke out but were able to escape without injury.

Two of the vessels, a 24-foot sailboat and a 36-foot motor yacht, sustained heavy damage and sank. The third vessel, a 36-foot sailboat, remained afloat but also was heavily damaged and is considered a total loss. A man who lived on the 36-foot sailboat was displaced by the fire.

Bystanders told fire officials that there were approximately 400 gallons of diesel fuel on board the two vessels when they sank. Honolulu Fire Department personnel deployed absorbent booms to contain any spilled diesel and contacted the Coast Guard and the state Department of Health’s Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response office.

This fire’s cause is under investigation, and estimates of the cost of the damage have yet to determined.

Car hits pedestrian in marked crosswalk

A 52-year-old pedestrian was critically injured Friday morning when she was struck by a car at the corner of Rycroft and Sheridan streets in the Keeaumoku area, according to Emergency Medical Services.

The Honolulu woman was crossing Sheridan Street in a marked crosswalk when she was struck by the car turning left from Rycroft Street onto Sheridan Street at about 10:10 a.m., police said.

The woman suffered head and internal injuries, police said. Paramedics took her in critical condition to a trauma hospital.
