Hawaii Electric Light Co. opened two utility-owned-and-operated electric vehicle DC fast chargers on Hawaii island Wednesday.
One is at the utility’s main office at 1200 Kilauea Ave. in Hilo. The other is at HELCO’s Kona office at 74-5519 Kaiwi St.
The rates range from $7 to $8 per session. Drivers may pay by credit card or through a Greenlots subscription.
The state Public Utilities Commission authorized a five-year pilot project for utilities to install, own and operate up to 25 fast chargers in their service territory.

>> Tom Wakita to vice president of sales and marketing for North America, from corporate director of programs and group sales. His experience in Outrigger includes being sales manager, corporate director and area director of sales.
>> Elizabeth “Ellie” Agustin to director of sales and marketing for its affiliates, Airport Honolulu Hotel and Best Western the Plaza Hotel, from business development manager. She has 14 years’ experience including as assistant hotel manager for the OHANA Waikiki Surf and OHANA Waikiki Surf East hotels.
>> Bob Froio as director of sales for North America. He has 31 years’ experience in the wholesale travel and hospitality industries, previously at LeisureLink.
