If you live outside urban Honolulu and care about your trash pickup schedule, now might be a good time to double-check your mailbox.
The city sent postcards of route schedule changes to about 15,000 homes in 10 affected neighborhoods. Not all homes within the 10 areas will be affected starting the week of June 6, but the general areas affected are in Haleiwa, Kailua Heights, Kailua, Kaneohe, Kuliouou, Makakilo, Nanakuli-Maili, Mililani Mauka, Mililani and Wahiawa.
The purpose of the updated schedules, the city says, is to make routes more efficient and provide for future expansion. As for near-term week of June 6, let’s hope inefficiencies and disruptions are kept to a minimum. For route-affected maps, see 808ne.ws/245hyZS.
Shane Victorino done with running the bases?
Star-Advertiser sports writer Dave Reardon gave the distinct impression in his Wednesday column that the professional baseball-playing days of Maui-born Shane Victorino could be numbered, especially after “the Flyin’ Hawaiian” was released Monday by the Chicago Cubs.
The 35-year-old Victorino has nothing to be ashamed of if he were to quit the game permanently in the days ahead. As Reardon noted, Victorino has two World Series titles, was an All-Star twice and won four Gold Gloves. He also has made some good money over the years, so if he takes it easy from here on out, we’d understand — and be grateful for all the good times he gave us.
