Victoria’s Secret opened its fifth Hawaii store at Windward Mall.

The new 7,865-square-foot, mall-level space houses Victoria’s Secret and Pink lines of lingerie and beauty products. The store, which opened May 27, is next to Kay Jewelers and Amy’s Hallmark.

Obon festival to offer happi coats

If you’re heading to Hawaii’s Plantation Village Obon Festival tonight and don’t have a happi coat, don’t worry. For the third year, volunteer crafters will be offering one-of-a-kind coats made of fabric donated to the nonprofit cultural village.

Lorene Ono came up with the idea of making the one-size-fits-all coats as a fundraiser to be sold at $25 each. Most of the coats are made of cotton or polyester, with the occasional brocade.

Only a limited number of coats will be available, so attendees are encouraged to come early if interested. The festival runs from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free.

Happi coats originated in Japan as firemen’s protective wear. They were padded with batting and soaked with water before entering the blaze. The garments were often elaborately decorated with sashiko embroidery to secure the batting and have since become a wardrobe staple for bon dances, replacing the silk kimono or cotton yukata.

Face mists offer cooling hydration

At the simplest level, face mists created to hydrate the skin pull double duty as they also offer a quick way to cool down when you’re on the go.

Kiehl’s recently introduced its Cactus Flower & Tibetan Ginseng Hydrating Mist, providing cooling moisture when you need it, with the scent of lavender, geranium and rosemary essential oils. Spray it in your hair to leave the scent of a spring garden in your wake.

Costs $17 for 2.5 fluid ounces or $27.50 for 4.2 fluid ounces at the new Kiehl’s shop at Ala Moana Center and upscale department stores.

Another hydrator straight from the garden is Tata Harper’s Hydrating Floral Essence, an organic formula with hyaluronic acid for moisture retention while you cool down. It’s $89 at Neiman Marcus.
