A floundering plan to build retail, boating and wedding facilities on state land at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor received another blow in U.S. bankruptcy court Monday. A judge denied a motion to affirm the lease between Honey Bee USA Inc. and the state, which is owed more than $1 million. Honey Bee’s Keith Kiuchi said he will file a motion by June 27 asking the judge to reconsider. “The judge is looking for a way to see that creditors are paid,” said Kiuchi, whose company filed for bankruptcy in November. “I think we’ve got a pretty good chance to come up with hard financing. I was on the phone with two or three parties today.” Since Honey Bee lost financing in 2014, Kiuchi has courted about 20 replacements.
