Friends and fans of legendary Hawaii jazz vocalist Jimmy Borges will have two chances to say a final goodbye to the entertainer, who died May 30 after succumbing to liver and lung cancer.

A Catholic memorial service will take place at Our Lady of Peace, 1184 Bishop St., on Saturday, with visitation from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and a funeral Mass at noon. Parking will be available at Century Square, 1188 Bishop St., as well as surrounding streets. Aloha attire is requested.

At 9 a.m. Sunday, Borges’ ashes will be scattered in the ocean fronting the Royal Hawaiian hotel, 2259 Kalakaua Ave. A celebration of life will follow at the hotel’s Monarch Room from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Borges family asks that guests wear aloha attire and refrain from wearing shorts or slippers; parking will be available at the Waikiki Shopping Plaza and Sheraton Waikiki for $8.

Borges, 80, died two days after winning his first Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. He was unable to attend the live telecast to personally accept his awards. His self-titled album won album of the year, male vocalist of the year and jazz album of the year, and Borges was also recognized as favorite entertainer of the year in a public vote.
