Three-time U.S. Olympic setter Lindsey Berg is expected to be named the new assistant coach for the University of Hawaii women’s volleyball team today.
Berg, a three-time All-Big Ten selection at Minnesota, fills the vacancy created when former Rainbow Wahine All-American Robyn Ah Mow-Santos resigned following her husband’s military relocation to Nevada. Berg and Ah Mow-Santos — also a three-time Olympian — were the setters for the U.S. at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, with the U.S. taking silver in ‘08.
The 34-year-old Berg was the starting setter at the 2012 Games, where the U.S. repeated as silver medalists. The Punahou School graduate was named best setter three times at the Pan American Cup and twice at the NORCECA Championship, as well as one of the USA Volleyball Indoor Female Athletes of the Year in 2011.
Born in Honolulu, Berg played professionally in the U.S. (short-lived Professional Volleyball League), Italy and Turkey. She currently lives in Los Angeles, where her entrepreneurial endeavors include Napela X, a multi-pronged sports lifestyle business that offers youth clinics, motivational speakers and fashion.
Head coach Dave Shoji declined comment, citing state privacy law on personnel matters.
