Kauai police on Wednesday identified a 43-year-old man found dead about two weeks ago in Kalalau Valley as Sean Michael Rollnick. Rollnick died of blunt force trauma consistent with falling off a cliff, police said. Foul play is not suspected.

The morning of June 11, lifeguards responded to a report of a body and found Rollnick’s body along a remote portion of the rocky shoreline near Kalalau Beach.

A few days later, Rollnick’s friend reported him missing.

Police said Rollnick was identified through his fingerprints. He reportedly lived on and off Kauai for several years and did not have a permanent address.

Public is asked to help thwart illegal dumping

Hawaii island police are asking for the public’s help in stopping illegal vehicle dumping after hundreds of abandoned vehicles were found in Kona this year.

About 280 abandoned or derelict vehicles have been reported in Kona since Jan. 1, compared with 106 during the same period last year.

The public should be on the lookout for private or business vehicles that might be dumping automobiles on the sides of roadways, said Sgt. Roylen Valera of the Kona Community Policing Section. Dumping a vehicle is punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, and an offender could also face a criminal littering charge, which carries a fine of up to $1,000 and community service.
