This appears to be the year billionaires build walls — or at least talk about doing so.
While it’s not a barrier to illegal border-crossing at the Mexican border as the Republicans’ presidential presumptive nominee Donald Trump wants to build, this one also has stirred a small controversy.
Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, is having a lava-rock wall built on his north-shore Kauai property, and some of the community have found the section that’s about 6 feet tall too big and unneighborly.
This particular tempest seems likely to calm down. Some have suggested that landscaping would help, and this shouldn’t be beyond the means of someone buying a $100 million property. Plant some shrubbery, Mr. Zuckerberg, and folks may start hitting the “like” button.
A lesson in life for a football star
It’s unfortunate that the University of Hawaii has released Kennedy Tulimasealii, who likely would’ve been an asset as defensive tackle on the field with potential for much more. But clearly, UH had to act now in the best interest of the team.
Tulimasealii has pleaded no contest to six criminal counts — including to property damage, a Class C felony — over four incidents involving his former girlfriend. A sentencing hearing is set for July 11.
Let’s hope for a positive outcome. No one likes to see any young adult’s future get mired by bad behavior or bad choices. But making sound choices means not resorting to assault or property damage — and that’s a life lesson that everyone, football player or not, needs to learn.
