Murdered man’s mom cheers new law signed by governor

    Nonohe Botelho hugged her granddaughter, Shairah-Lynn Chang-Botelho, 8, at the state Capitol on Wednesday. Botelho and her family attended a bill signing of “Joel’s Law” by Gov. David Ige to expand the scope of first-degree murder charges.

Joel Botelho was executed in front of his family’s Kaneohe home in 2011 after the shooter ordered him to get down on his knees and beg for his life. Read more
