The decomposing body of a woman was retrieved Sunday from Lake Wilson.
The woman’s body apparently had been in the water for several days and might have been the subject of a swimmer-in- distress call Thursday, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. James Todd.
Todd said firefighters were called to Wahiawa Freshwater State Park at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday after someone spotted the body floating in the water.
Firefighters retrieved the body, which was unrecognizable, and turned it over to police and the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office.
Three days earlier, at about 5:35 p.m. Thursday, firefighters received conflicting reports about a female swimmer in distress and someone yelling at the lake.
Firefighters searched the surface and underwater but could not see anything below the surface because of poor visibility. After failing to locate anyone in distress and with no one reporting anyone missing in the area, firefighters ended the search two hours later.
