Police arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 55-year-old man on Paki Avenue, near the busy Kapiolani Park tennis courts, on Thursday.
Police were called to an argument at about noon at 3908 Paki Ave., close to the entrance of the tennis courts near the old archery range, said police Homicide Lt. Phillip Lavarias.
Responding officers found an unconscious man with a wound, initiated CPR and provided medical aid, he said. City Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the man to a hospital, where he later died.
As this was occurring, the older man, who had fled the scene, returned and was identified by a witness, Lavarias said. Police arrested him at 12:10 p.m. on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder.
A number of people witnessed the attack, Lavarias said. A knife was recovered from the 60-year-old man, who has no local address, he said.
Lavarias said he did not know the relationship between the two men.
“Kapiolani Park is relatively safe,” Lavarias said. “This was an isolated incident.”
The city Medical Examiner’s Office did not release information Thursday pertaining to the victim’s identification or cause of death.
