Isle cockroaches have been given a short reprieve while HoyHoy Trap-A-Roach, a staple in Hawaii households, is held up in U.S. Customs and Boarder Protection. Earth Chemical, manufacturer of the HoyHoy glue traps, is being required to relabel its packaging to comply with federal regulations set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Many consumers rely on HoyHoy to keep roaches in check. There are 19 species of cockroaches in Hawaii, and the islands boast a healthy population of the large, flying American roaches (known as B-52 bombers.)
HoyHoy’s distributor hopes to have the traps back on store shelves by late August or early September. The sooner the better for roach-averse customers.
