Hawaii News Now and the Honolulu Star-Advertiser will present “Campaign 2016: The Mayoral Debate” today from 7 to 8 p.m. on KGMB.
HNN’s Mileka Lincoln will host the conversation with mayoral candidates Kirk Caldwell, Peter Carlisle and Charles Djou on issues including homelessness, rail transition, problems at the Honolulu Police Department, growth and development, and more.
The debate comes 11 days before the Aug. 13 primary election.
New fire station officially opens at Hilo Airport
HILO >> State officials have opened a new $18.8 million fire station at Hilo Airport.
The Hawaii Department of Transportation dedicated the 21,000-square-foot facility Friday. Construction work had started in May 2015.
The two-story facility features an emergency operations center, living space for firefighters and four drive-thru truck bays designed to accommodate larger vehicles.
The Federal Aviation Administration paid for nearly 90 percent of the cost. The state Airports Division contributed $3 million.
A move-in date for firefighters has not been set.
Big Isle man faces several drug charges
A 60-year-old Mountain View man faces multiple drug charges following a search of his home Monday morning.
Hawaii island police executed a search warrant at the Pikake Street home at 6:25 a.m. Police said they recovered 364 grams of heroin, 15 grams of cocaine, 8.1 grams of dried marijuana and 1.4 grams of methamphetamine.
Gregory Cook was arrested and charged with first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, two counts of second-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and other drug and paraphernalia charges. His bail was set at $35,500.
