A grand jury returned an indictment Wednesday charging a 61-year-old man with murder in connection with the stabbing death of a popular Waikiki valet.
Karl Forster was indicted on a charge of second-degree murder. He was being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center with a $250,000 bail.
Forster is accused of stabbing to death 55-year-old Theodore Abraham Jr. of Kapolei a few minutes before noon July 28 near the tennis courts on Paki Avenue in Kapiolani Park.
Abraham worked for 12 years at the Imperial Hawaii Resort at Waikiki and was everybody’s “teddy bear,” a resort manager said.
Friends said Abraham was a peacemaker, often brought lunch for his co-workers and enjoyed singing.
Prosecutors on Wednesday said Forster was yelling at a woman at the park when Abraham asked him what the disagreement was about. Forster took out a folding knife from his shorts pocket and stabbed Abraham, prosecutors said.
Police arrested Forster when he returned to the scene about 12:15 p.m. and they found a knife in his pocket.
Abraham was taken to a hospital, where he died.
“He was just a big-heartened, lovable guy,” said Lynette Salazar, a manager at the Imperial. She said employees have been receiving condolences from guests of the timeshare.
“He was always happy,” she said. “He was also my friend, my brother. I loved him to death.”
