Hawaiian Airlines’ passenger traffic rose 3.1 percent in July as the company filled more of its seats and added more flights.
The state’s largest carrier transported 1.04 million people compared with 1 million in the year-earlier period, while its load factor, or the percentage of seats filled, rose 1.7 percentage points to 86.2 percent from 84.5 percent.
Available seat miles, or one seat transported one mile, increased 4.3 percent to 1.68 million from 1.61 million. Revenue passenger miles, or one paying passenger transported 1 mile, gained 6.4 percent to 1.45 million from 1.36 million.
Hawaii resident wins new Infiniti
Hawaii resident Luke Bellocchi was the grand-prize winner of the 2016 Infiniti Service Owner Appreciation Event national competition. A celebration was held last week at Infiniti of Honolulu.
Bellocchi was named the winner after entering an online national competition.
There were hors d’oeuvres, a cake and an award ceremony to present Bellocchi with his new vehicle. The event was created to show appreciation for the loyalty shown by Infiniti automobile owners.
Dish relegates ESPN to an add-on
NEW YORK >> Dish Network is offering a new “skinny” bundle of about 50 cable channels that doesn’t include ESPN and some other sports channels, giving people who don’t care about sports a way to save money on TV without joining the ranks of “cord cutters.”
Sports channels are among the most expensive for cable and satellite TV companies and are usually included in big cable bundles. That drives up the bill for all customers, whether they enjoy watching ballgames or not.
Dish’s new “Flex Pack” starts at $30 a month, not including fees and taxes, while a big cable bundle typically costs about $90.
U.S. jobless aid rises to still-low 269,000
WASHINGTON >> More Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, but the number of remained close to historic lows in a positive sign for the job market. Applications for jobless aid rose 3,000 to a seasonally adjusted 269,000, the Labor Department said Thursday. The four-week average, a less volatile measure, increased by 3,750, to 260,250.
Ford recalls 830,000 vehicles for latches
DETROIT >> Ford is recalling about 830,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Mexico because parts in the side door latches can break and the doors can open while the vehicles are moving. The recall announced Thursday covers certain 2013 to 2015 Ford Escape SUVs and C-Max cars, and 2012 to 2015 Focus cars. Also included are 2014 to 2016 Ford Transit Connect vans, and Ford Mustang sports cars and Lincoln MKC SUVs from 2015. Ford says a faulty spring part can break, stopping the doors from latching. The company says it knows of one crash and one injury that could have been caused by the problem.
Fannie Mae earns $2.9 billion in quarter
WASHINGTON >> Fannie Mae reported net income of $2.9 billion from April through June, down from a year earlier as low interest rates brought losses for the mortgage giant on its investments. The second-quarter results released Thursday marked the 18th straight profitable quarter for the government-controlled company.

Group 70 International has announced that Craig Takahata has joined the company as a principal. He is an architect who has led design projects throughout Asia, the United States, the Pacific Rim, the Bahamas and the Middle East. Takahata was previously at design firm WATG for 17 years, serving as vice president and managing director. He returns to G70, where he worked at a variety of resort projects from 1994 to 1999.

Wet’n’Wild Hawaii has hired Tommy Duong as local sales manager, overseeing program development with event planners from numerous companies and organizations. He is also a veteran of the Hawaii Army National Guard with a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Hawaii at Manoa Shidler College of Business.
