Police have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash that killed a man working in a yard in Aiea on Saturday afternoon.
The suspect was arrested at the Turtle Bay Resort at 10:15 p.m. Sunday on suspicion of second-degree negligent homicide and failure to render aid.
He was still in custody Monday while police continued to investigate. No charges have been filed.
The city Medical Examiner’s Office has withheld the name of the dead man, pending notification of relatives. A friend, however, identified him as Brandon Kishida, 42.
Police said the man was doing yardwork along Aiea Heights Drive at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday when he was struck by a silver Honda CR-V near Hoio Street. He was taken in critical condition to a hospital, where he died.
The driver fled the scene.
Man, 25, stabbed to death in Makiki
Police said a 25-year-old man was stabbed to death Sunday afternoon on Makiki Street.
Police are seeking witnesses to the 4:40 p.m. stabbing. The victim died at a local hospital.
Police have not released a description of the suspect.
Woman who died in Waianae crash ID’d
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said Monday that Kristina Kyle, 53, of Waianae died Saturday after her vehicle hit a power pole on Waianae Valley Road.
Police said excessive speed, alcohol and drugs appeared to be factors in the crash, which happened about 200 feet north of Plantation Road. Kyle died at the scene.
Kyle was driving south when she lost control, drove onto a dirt shoulder on the right and crashed at about 11:30 p.m., police said.
Kyle’s was the 31st traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared with 30 at this time last year.
Intruder caught in Sand Island warehouse
A 27-year-old homeless man was caught in a Sand Island warehouse Sunday morning after he tripped a silent alarm, police said.
The alarm company called the owner of the warehouse on Ulupono Street at 9 a.m., reporting that a door to the building was open. The owner checked on his building with security personnel and found the suspect. Police arrested the man on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
