Kauai’s North Shore Shuttle debuts today.
The shuttle will run between North Shore resorts and other visitor destinations in the area on two routes intersecting at Ching Young Village.
“We are very pleased that the shuttle is being offered to our residents and visitors once again,” said Mayor Bernard Carvalho in a statement sent by email Sunday. “The pilot program, which ran about a year ago, clearly demonstrated that this service should be a component of efforts to reduce traffic in the area.”
The Hawaii Tourism Authority awarded a grant of $160,000 for the shuttle and $140,000 for cultural restoration projects in Haena.
The shuttle will run from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily at a cost of $4 for visitors and $2 for residents.
The 14-passenger fleet, operated by Hawaii Executive Transportation, will cover Princeville Airport; the Westin Princeville; Wyndham Resorts’ Ka Eo Kai, Shearwater and Bali Hai Villas; The Cliffs at Princeville; The St. Regis Princeville Resort; and Hanalei Bay Resort. The shuttle will also stop at the Princeville Center and Ching Young Village in Hanalei before returning to the Princeville Airport. The second route will start at Ching Young Village with stops at the Wainiha General Store, Wainiha Road, Hanalei Colony Resort, Haena Beach Park and Kee Beach before returning to Ching Young Village.
A transfer ticket will be issued to passengers wanting to transfer from the Princeville shuttle to the Haena shuttle or vice versa.
The shuttles have limited storage for beach chairs, boogieboards, mats and small coolers, Kauai County said.
