A sex offender with multiple convictions faces up to 20 years in prison for failing to register as an offender, according to the attorney general’s office.

Alexander Aipolani Jr. has been charged with four counts of failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements after being released from prison.

Aipolani was convicted of kidnapping with intent to commit a sexual offense and sentenced to five years’ probation in 1984. He was also convicted of second-degree sexual assault in 1993 in a case involving a minor under the age of 14. Aipolani was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment for that crime.

Aipolani also failed, as required, to report to the chief of police in person within 30 days of his birthday in 2013, 2014 and 2015; or to report a new address to the attorney general and the Hawaii criminal justice data center within three days of moving, as required by law.

The charges against Aipolani carry a sentence of up to five years in prison for each offense.
