Hilo’s B.J. Penn will fight Ricardo Lamas in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Manila on Oct. 15 in the Philippines, the UFC announced late Sunday night.
Penn (16-10-2, 12-9-2 UFC), who last fought in July 2014, will attempt his third comeback fight this year after bouts against Dennis Siver and Cole Miller were called off for different reasons.
Penn was forced to serve a six-month suspension after disclosing in May the usage of an IV in excess of 50 ml that is prohibited by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency.
His suspension is set to end just before the Oct. 15 fight date.
Lamas (16-5, 7-3) is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Waianae’s Max Holloway in June and is ranked fourth in the UFC featherweight division.
The fight will take place at 145 pounds.
Penn, a former UFC world champion in two different weight classes, has lost his past three bouts and hasn’t won a fight since November 2010.
