Off-duty law enforcement officers will spend three days atop 10-foot-tall scaffolds in shopping centers statewide to raise money for Special Olympics Hawaii.
The 15th annual Special Olympics Hawaii Cop on Top fundraiser will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Walmart stores statewide and around Oahu at all Sam’s Club locations, Salt Lake Shopping Center, Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center, Hawaii Kai Shopping Center and Enchanted Lake Shopping Center.
Since 2001, Cop on Top has raised more than $2.7 million to benefit Special Olympics Hawaii, which provides year-round sports training and competition to more than 4,700 athletes statewide.
Women’s Equality Day film screening
A special screening of “Equal Means Equal,” a documentary about women that explores current discriminatory attitudes, workplace harassment, domestic violence and health care limitations, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the Hawaii Theatre.
The screening, which is being held on Women’s Equality Day, commemorates the 96th anniversary of the passing of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote.
Tickets are $3. The film is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Honolulu Education Fund and the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women.
’Tis almost the season for craft fairs
