Honolulu’s Kristina Merkle dropped to 20th place after the second round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament on the Arnold Palmer Course in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Merkle was tied for the lead after shooting a 66 on Thursday, but recorded three bogeys and a double bogey to finish with a 4-over 76 on Friday.
Hilo’s Kimberly Kim is tied with Merkle at 142. Sarah Schmelzel earned a three-stroke lead in a field of 340 golfers going into today’s third round.
Honolulu’s Kacie Komoto trails in 62nd place at 145, followed by Marissa Chow in 100th place (147) and Alice Kim’s score of 151.
Chaminade sweeps Alaska Anchorage
The Chaminade women’s volleyball team opened its season by sweeping No. 14 Alaska Anchorage 25-19, 29-27, 27-25 Friday at McCabe Gym.
Kim Spring, Cassie Rushlow and Daisia LaBrie led a balanced Silverswords attack with eight kills apiece.
