Foodland Super Market Ltd. is returning to Ala Moana Center with the opening of its flagship Foodland Farms on Wednesday.
Doors will open to the public at 10 a.m., following a blessing ceremony at the mall’s new Ewa wing expansion.
The locally owned grocery retailer is opening a full-service market with food stations, including a poke “island,” grill station, chicken shack and shave ice stand.
The store will include The Bar at R. Field Wine Co., a Foodland Pharmacy, as well as The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and HI Steaks. New services include a full-time concierge and will-call service.
Foodland opened at Ala Moana Center in August 1959 as an original tenant. The grocery chain has 33 stores on four islands, including the new Foodland Farms at Ala Moana.
HECO to put EV charger at Waianae Mall
Hawaiian Electric Co. said Monday it will install and operate a new electric vehicle charger at Waianae Mall.
The charger will be at 86-120 Farrington Highway. It will be sixth HECO-owned public “fast-charging” site on Oahu and ninth in its service territories.
HECO said the fast charger can recharge a typical EV battery to 80 percent in less than a half-hour.
Other HECO-owned fast chargers are at Dole Plantation in Wahiawa, Koolau Center in Kaneohe, Kapolei Commons, 7-Eleven in Hawaii Kai and at HECO’s Ward Avenue customer parking lot.
The Public Utilities Commission has authorized HECO to own 25 fast chargers.

October is Filipino American History Month, and the Filipino Community Center has announced that Lynn Watanabe will be one of the honorees at its 14th annual Bayanihan Gala fundraiser Oct. 14. Watanabe served on the board of Aloha Medical Mission, which organizes medical missions to the Philippines and other developing countries. She also chairs the board of directors for Child & Family Service Philippines.

He has more than 20 years of experience in the luxury hotel sector, including working at Montage Kapalua Bay, Westin Maui Resort and Spa, Westin Ka‘anapali Ocean Resort Villas, Kahala Mandarin Oriental and The Royal Hawaiian hotel. Palank also was vice president of sales and marketing at Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas and regional director of leisure sales for Trump Hotel Collection.
