Fire on Maui extinguished
Fire crews extinguished a 10-acre brush fire in Kihei, Maui.
The fire broke out at about 1:30 p.m. Friday on the mauka side of Piilani Highway, near Kulanihakoi Street.
The Kihei fire crew arrived at 1:40 p.m. and found brush burning about 200 feet mauka of the highway.
Winds of 15 to 20 mph spread the fire quickly before firefighters brought it under control around 2:30 p.m. When firefighters left the scene at 5:05 p.m., no smoke could be seen.
But because of the kiawe trees within the areas, they waited until 9:15 a.m. Saturday to declare the fire extinguished.
