Football season is here, and in Las Vegas that means promotions, parties, betting specials and contests.
Two contests are particularly good for visitors. The first is the “Gridiron Glory” contest at any Station casino, where you have a chance to win $10,000 if you pick the most winners in Sunday’s NFL games.
The second is the excellent “Pick the Pros” contest at the Orleans, Gold Coast, Suncoast, Sam’s Town, California and Fremont casinos, which has a $30,000 prize on the line every week.
Both contests are free to enter, and require only that you have a player’s card that you swipe at a kiosk.
You don’t have to know anything about football to play; just pick the teams you like and watch the results unfold. There’s a lot of competition, so you’ll probably have to pick them all correctly to win, but the worst you can do is break even and have some fun.
Tower debuts: A $99 million, 352-foot air traffic control tower that was delayed for more than a year due to multiple problems during construction has opened at McCarran International Airport. It’s nearly double the height of the previous control tower, which had been in use since 1983, and solves the problem of controllers encountering “blind spots” created by the growth of the airport.
Restaurants revealed: The Lucky Dragon, expected to be the next casino to open in Las Vegas, has released its restaurant lineup.
The five eateries, all Chinese-themed, include a night market, a dim sum specialty restaurant, a tea garden near the pool, a gourmet room and a 24-hour coffee shop. There will be no buffet. A firm opening date for the casino has still not been set, but is being quoted as “late 2016.”
Question: Will the Main Event of the World Series of Poker be televised this year?
Answer: Yes. ESPN begins its coverage of the WSOP Main Event on Tuesday.
The shows will run up until the players reconvene for the final table on Oct. 30, which will be televised live.
