Safeway is starting a new grocery delivery program on Oahu today.
For the first time in Hawaii, Safeway customers in select areas will be able to do their grocery shopping online at shop.safeway.com or via the Safeway delivery app (available on iOS and Android devices) and have their goods delivered to their door seven days a week.
“We are thrilled to offer grocery delivery to our customers on Oahu and create new jobs in the community,” said George Glukfeld, Hawaii district manager, in a news release. “Our customers on Oahu were a driving force in our offering the service here and we hope they will enjoy the added convenience and time savings of grocery delivery.”
The app will allow customers to save a list of previously purchased items for repeat buying and create customized grocery lists by scanning bar codes to add items to their cart. The company has designated in-store personal shoppers to fill orders and has purchased eight new trucks equipped with refrigeration.
The regular home delivery price in most areas is $9.95 on purchases of $150 or more and $12.95 on purchases of less than $150, according to Safeway’s website. A minimum of $49 in purchases is required, the website said. A fuel surcharge and bag fees might apply.
The grocery chain, with 22 stores in the islands, will deliver to the following areas: Aiea, Pearl City, Pearl Harbor, Liliha/Nuuanu, Downtown, Kalihi Valley, Pearl Harbor/Hickam, Salt Lake/Foster Village/Aliamanu, Kaneohe, Kailua/Lanikai/Enchanted Lake, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, Hawaii Kai, Waimanalo, Aina Haina/Niu Valley, Makiki/Manoa/UH, McCully/Moiliili, Ala Moana/Kakaako, Waikiki/Diamond Head and Kaimuki/Palolo.
Oahu shoppers are eligible to receive $15 off their first order in addition to free delivery by entering the promo code “aloha” at the online checkout on orders placed by Oct. 30.
