>> Boston pitcher Steven Wright (Hawaii) is day-to-day after struggling in his return from a shoulder injury. He has missed two straight starts. A second opinion on his shoulder confirmed the initial diagnosis that there is no structural damage.

>> Robert Collias of the Maui News reported last week that Kanekoa Texeira (Kamehameha) is retiring and will become a pitching coach in the Atlanta Braves system next season.

>> Two players with Hawaii ties have been assigned to the prestigious Arizona Fall League: Texas Rangers utility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa (Mid-Pacific) for the Surprise Saguaros and Tampa Bay Rays OF Kean Wong (Waiakea) for the Peoria Javelinas.

>> Ian Kahaloa (Campbell) got the win Friday as the Billings Mustangs beat the Great Falls Voyagers 7-3 in the opener of their Pioneer League playoffs semifinal. Billings won the league’s North Division. A 5-1 win Saturday gave the Mustangs a sweep and a spot in the Pioneer League championship series against either the Orem Owls or the Ogden Raptors. Those teams play today for that finals berth.
