BYUH’s Moncur, Horrocks run to titles
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Max Moncur and Jessica Horrocks won individual titles at the Vulcan Invitational cross country meet Saturday at the Kamehameha-Hawaii campus.
Hawaii Pacific won the men’s team title with 23 points, Brigham Young-Hawaii was second with 36 and Chaminade placed third with 78.
HPU also won the women’s title with 22 points and was followed by BYU-Hawaii (41), Hawaii Hilo (76) and Chaminade (95).
Moncur won the 8K men’s race in 27:38.7. HPU’s Edward Ochsner (28:01.5) was second and teammate Ivan Juarez (28:17.2) finished third.
Horrocks claimed the 6K women’s race in 24:25.2. HPU’s Meghan Rasch (24:28.2) placed second and teammate Allison Carone (24:35.6) finished third.
Hawaii Hilo volleyball team falls in 5 sets
Marley Strand-Nicolaisen had 12 kills and Sienna Davis finished with 33 assists and 19 digs, but the Hawaii Hilo volleyball team fell to Humboldt State 25-19, 16-25, 25-16, 18-25, 15-6 on Saturday in Carson, Calif.
Symone Hayden recorded 17 kills for the Jacks (4-3). The Vulcans fell to 2-3.
>> Pomai Recca finished with 23 kills and 22 digs and Mahea Pescaia had 30 assists, but Hawaii Pacific fell to Chico State 27-25, 23-25, 23-25, 25-20, 15-10 in Turlock, Calif.
Olivia Mediano and Camryn Rocha both had 19 kills for the Wildcats (5-3). The Sharks fell to 4-5.
>> Sinamoni Tonga had 13 kills and 13 assists, but Brigham Young-Hawaii lost to Cal Poly 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 in La Jolla, Calif.
The Mustangs improved to 4-4, while the Seasiders dropped to 2-7.
>> Kim Spring and Daisia LaBrie each had eight kills and Natashya Enos recorded 21 assists in Chaminade’s 25-22, 25-15, 25-20 loss to Simon Fraser in San Francisco.
Emma Jennings had 13 kills and Tamara Nipp finished with 38 assists for the Clan (6-1). The Silverswords fell to 6-3.
Arakawa scores twice in Vulcans’ win
Tiera Arakawa scored at 45:20 and 54:58 as the Hawaii Hilo women’s soccer team beat Northwest Nazarene 2-0 on Saturday in Nampa, Idaho.
Arakawa’s first goal came on a penalty kick and the second was unassisted.
Jenna Hufford made five saves for the Vulcans (1-1-0). The Crusaders dropped to 1-3-0.
>> Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Brena Jarvis Love scored at 20:32 and Hawaii Pacific’s Sara Romo found the back of the net at 80:25 as the teams played to a 1-1 tie in Laie.
Both teams moved to 0-2-1.
HPU men’s soccer team rallies to tie BYUH
Josiah Darland scored at 38:25 and Sven Koenig added a goal at 63:38 as the Hawaii Pacific men’s soccer team rallied to tie Brigham Young-Hawaii 2-2 in the season opener for both teams Saturday in Laie.
Jacob McRae scored at 7:16 and 9:37 for the Seasiders.
>> Angel Ayala and Joey Chica scored in the second half as Cal State Dominguez Hills beat Hawaii Hilo 2-0 in Nampa, Idaho.
The Toros improved to 2-1-1, while the Vulcans dropped to 0-2-0.
