Brena Jarvis Love scored the go-ahead goal in the 56th minute off a penalty kick to give the Brigham Young-Hawaii women’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over Chaminade on Tuesday at BYU-Hawaii soccer field.
Chaminade (0-2) took the lead when Caitlin Tatemichi scored in the 18th minute. In the second half, Mackenzie Bean tied it up in the 54th minute off a pass from Kala Brundige. Love then drew a penalty after getting knocked to the ground by Chaminade’s Brandee Lane and connected on the ensuing penalty kick to give BYUH (1-2-1) the lead for good.
BYUH finished the game with 12 shots to Chaminade’s four, including an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
The Seasiders will travel to the mainland to take on Academy of Art on Tuesday. Chaminade will head to the Big Island to face Hawaii Hilo on Saturday.
BYUH men edge Chaminade
Jake McRae, last season’s Pacific West Conference Newcomer of the Year, scored two goals to guide the BYUH men’s soccer team past Chaminade 2-1 at BYU-Hawaii soccer field.
Chaminade (0-1) struck first when Micah Mokulehua blasted home a putback goal after a save by BYUH goalkeeper Dwayne Wittman to give the Silverswords the lead in the 32nd minute.
In the 47th minute, McRae tied the score, heading in a free kick by Pierre Henrio. He put BYUH (1-0-1) ahead off a feed from Cutter Zaugg in the 67th minute.
BYUH will play its final nonconference game on Thursday, playing host to Simon Fraser at 12:30 p.m. Chaminade will next play on Saturday, traveling to the Big Island to face Hawaii Hilo.
