Former Mililani star quarterback McKenzie Milton will be the starter for Central Florida in its game against Maryland today, according to Mark Milton, McKenzie’s dad.
“UCF coaches told McKenzie that he is starting tomorrow night versus Maryland,” Mark Milton texted Hawaii Prep World on Friday. “They are not going to redshirt him.”
A freshman at UCF this fall, McKenzie Milton led the Trojans to the Division I state championship two seasons ago. He was hurt last year, when Mililani was eliminated in the state semifinals.
UCF (1-1) is coming off a 51-14 loss at Michigan. In their opener, the Knights beat South Carolina State 38-0.
Two seniors, Justin Holman (17-for-39, 212 yards, 2 TDs, 43.6 completion percentage) and Nick Patti (8-for-18, 85 yards, 44.4 completion percentage), have been the quarterbacks so far for the Knights.
The UCF vs. Maryland game in Orlando will be broadcast at 1 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.
Milton, a dual-threat quarterback, ranks third in Hawaii history in passing yards with 7,303. He had a 65.5 completion percentage in his three years as a starter from 2013 to 2015. He is behind only Saint Louis’ Timmy Chang (8,001, from 1997 through 1999) and Leilehua’s Andrew Manley (7,637, from 2007 to 2009).
Milton’s 81 TD passes are second only to Chang’s 113.
