Farrington put the run in running clock on Saturday night.
The Governors (5-1, 5-1 OIA Red) scored the game’s first 42 points and racked up 359 yards on the ground as they cruised to a 69-21 victory over Nanakuli (0-6, 0-5) at Roosevelt field.
“It was a big score, but for us, we want to stay focused,” Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. “We got a big game next week (at Kapolei) and we really want to finish strong getting into the playoffs.”
Pacing the Governors’ offense was Challen Faamatau. The senior scored four touchdowns and accounted for 185 yards of total offense, despite sitting the second half.
“The key for this game was to just play as a team,” Faamatau said. “Coach Okimoto preaches every day that the only way we’re going to win is as one unit and one family.”
The Golden Hawks were led by Chyson Morgan, who threw a touchdown pass and caught two as he started at quarterback and then shifted to wideout.
Farrington’s 69 points are a school record, surpassing the 63 it scored in a shutout victory over Roosevelt on Sept. 16, 2011.
The win sets up a road showdown with Kapolei next week, while Nanakuli seeks its first win with a visit to Castle.
“We subbed a lot, but the hardest thing is to keep these guys focused for all four quarters,” Okimoto said. “The score was high, but at the same time, we gotta perfect certain plays for when we play the elite teams. No disrespect to Nanakuli, they didn’t quit.”
