1. Dawkins
>> Situation: Arizona 0, Hawaii 0, 9:29 remaining first quarter, Arizona ball, first-and-10 at Hawaii 24.
>> The Play: QB Brandon Dawkins breaks loose for a 24-yard touchdown run.
>> Impact: It was the first of three touchdown runs for Dawkins, who started the season as the Arizona second-string quarterback. Two of his touchdowns came in the first quarter, and he carried 15 times for 118 yards for the game.
>> Hawaii coach Nick Rolovich: “That kid can do some stuff with his legs. … Credit to their coaching staff on how they used Dawkins. … They played to his strengths and coached to his strengths.”
2. Ursua
>> Situation: Arizona 20, Hawaii 0, 1:20 remaining first quarter, Hawaii ball, first-and-10 at own 47.
>> The Play: After five consecutive plays to RB Steven Lakalaka, QB Ikaika Woolsey fakes a handoff to him and then completes a 38-yard catch-and-run to SB John Ursua.
>> Impact: On the next play Woolsey and Ursua hooked up again, this time for a 15-yard touchdown, putting Hawaii briefly back into the game.
>> Ursua: “It was a nice play-action. Ikaika made a nice read to pull it. He found me there in space.”
3. Nullified
>> Situation: Arizona 20, Hawaii 7, 13:34 remaining second quarter, Hawaii ball, second-and-10 at Arizona 48.
>> The Play: Woolsey completes a 48-yard touchdown pass to SB Dylan Collie, but the play is called back for holding.
>> Impact: Instead of closing the score to a one-touchdown deficit, Hawaii’s drive fizzled at the Arizona 41 when it turned the ball over on downs.
>> Rolovich: “I thought (the penalties) came at some bad times for us. You’re not going to win many games consistently making 12 penalties.”
4. Taylor-made
>> Situation: Arizona 37, Hawaii 14, 3:39 remaining third quarter, Arizona ball, second-and-20 at own 39.
>> The Play: RB J.J. Taylor blasts 61 yards for a touchdown that helps seal the Arizona victory.
>> Impact: Taylor started the season as Arizona’s third-string running back. He rushed for 168 yards on 18 carries.
>> Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez: “He’s a tough competitor and player. He really is mature beyond his years, as far as this level of football.”
5. Now what?
>> Situation: Arizona 48, Hawaii 20, 4:32 remaining fourth quarter, Hawaii ball, third-and-goal at Arizona 3.
>> The Play: QB Dru Brown keeps the ball and rolls right and into the end zone untouched for a touchdown.
>> Impact: Although some of the 21 points scored in the second half with Brown at quarterback came against Arizona backups and he fumbled on the last drive, Hawaii could have a new starting quarterback for its next game after Woolsey started the first four.
>> Rolovich: “I thought Dru went in there and played well. … I think we’re going to have a pretty good discussion.”
