Kevin Hayashi leads the field at the Aloha Section Stroke Play Championship and Professional Qualifier, shooting an opening-round 66 and ending with a 6 under par at Wailea Gold Course.
One stroke behind Hayashi are Eric Dugas, Eddie Lee, Garrett Okamura and Kevin Carll.
The champion of the combined event will earn a spot at the 2017 Sony Open, which will be held at the Waialae Country Club, Jan. 12-15.
Mokulehua earns Pac West soccer honor
The Pacific West Conference named midfielder Micah Mokulehua as the Men’s Soccer Freshman of the Week.
Mokulehua scored his first two goals in back-to-back games to start his collegiate career.
He scored his first goal in the 32nd minute in Thursday’s season opener at BYU-Hawaii and then his second against Hawaii Hilo.
The Silverswords will travel to face Fresno Pacific on Thursday.
