The Hawaiian Humane Society is asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest after two dogs were reported missing Tuesday from the adoption shelter.
A person of interest had a “meet and greet” with one of the dogs, a pitbull-mix named Punu, on Tuesday and was the last person seen with the dog, said Suzy Tam, Hawaiian Humane Society spokeswoman.
The staff noticed that Punu and a terrier-mix named Pebble were missing at about 7 p.m. while conducting a check of all the dogs before closing.
Punu is 2 to 4 years old and Pebble is about 3 years old.
Tam said the animals are usually kept in pods or kennels, and staffers try to keep an eye on visitors, but someone may have slipped through a back door.
The Humane Society, 2700 Waialae Ave., adopts out dogs for a fee of about $95 each.
Anyone with information about the dogs’ whereabouts or the identity of the person in a surveillance photo released by the Humane Society is asked to call Humane Society field services manager Harold Han at 356-2214.
