With football comes a new season of football parties in Las Vegas. On weekends, the casino sports books are packed with all the games showing on the big screens. But Mondays and Thursdays are when the dedicated football parties take place.
The best in town is at South Point, where on Monday and Thursday nights a big crowd gathers in the showroom for $1 hot dogs, $3 pizza slices and $2 draft beer. Other good Monday night parties convenient to the Strip are held at Ellis Island, Gold Coast and Orleans, while the action downtown is in the Triple 7 Brewpub at Main Street Station.
Dog & beer: One of the best football deals this season is the combo of $1.50 hot dogs and $1.50 beers at several Station casinos around town (Palace Station, Sunset Station, etc.). The dogs come with kraut, onions and, in some locations, jalapenos, at no extra charge. And if you bundle a dog and a beer for $3, they throw in your choice of pretzels, Doritos or Cracker Jacks.
Safety shot: Many of the football parties have gimmicky promos, such as this one at the new Goose Island Pub at the Hard Rock. When either team makes a safety during the featured game, everyone in the bar gets a free shot. It’s a cool idea, but don’t go rushing over — a safety occurs only about once every 17 games.
“Jersey Boys” closes: Last weekend was the final performance for “Jersey Boys” at the Paris. Its eight-year run that began at the Venetian is the longest ever for a Broadway show in Las Vegas, a full two years better than the run of “Mamma Mia!” at Mandalay Bay.
Question: Are any of the casinos offering free dogs or drinks on Monday nights?
Answer: You’re channeling memories of the way it was a few years back, when the Monday-night-party competition between casinos was more pronounced. The last holdout is Sam’s Town on Boulder Highway, where the first draft beer is free at its “Monday Night Football” party held in the events center.
