There have been few stars of the sports world as seemingly eternal as Arnold Palmer. That light went out over the weekend when the golf master died at age 87.
His talents were appreciated by an audience that television helped to expand. And his unassuming style and charm continued to win new fans over the decades. Palmer left a lasting imprint on Hawaii through his second career as a golf course designer, first at Kapalua in 1974.
A course at Turtle Bay also has the Palmer imprint. Arnold and Kit Palmer were married quietly on the beach near that Oahu course in 2005. So Hawaii left an imprint on him as well.
Manti Te‘o’s faith remains strong
We’re hoping Manti Te‘o, starting inside linebacker for the San Diego Chargers, is able to come back even stronger after he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon. The season-ending injury occurred in Sunday’s 26-22 loss against the Colts. The Chargers’ official website described Te‘o as the heart and soul of the team’s defense — so his absence leaves big shoes to fill. Nonetheless, the former Punahou School standout remains positive: “I live by a quote that says, ‘God puts mountains in front of you to show other people that it can be moved,’ and my faith is strong. I know that I will be alright,” Te‘o told Chargers.com.
