Chaminade women’s volleyball team fell short in their mainland trip, losing to Point Loma 25-18, 16-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-10 at Golden Gym.
The Silverswords gained control in the fifth set, leading as many as five points, but slowed down the stretch and allowed the Sea Lions to outscore them 13-3 to lose the match.
Chaminade is 7-5 overall and 1-2 in the Pacific West Conference and Point Loma improves to 4-9 and 2-2.
Daisia LaBrie had 15 kills with four blocks and Kim Spring added 12 kills.
The Sea Lions’ Brianna Sizemore had 15 kills and Samantha Krakower added 12 in the victory.
The Silverswords will visit Azusa Pacific on Wednesday.
BYU-Hawaii women fall in 4
Sinamoni Tonga had her third triple-double of the season, but it wasn’t enough for the BYU-Hawaii women’s volleyball team as they fell to Dominican University 28-26, 25-17, 18-25, 25-23 at the Conlan Center in San Rafael, Calif.
Tonga recorded 18 kills, 17 assists and 11 digs and Leilani Adolpho added nine kills and 12 digs for the Seasiders, who fell to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the PacWest.
Brittany Latigue led the Penguins with nine kills and five blocks and improved their record to 8-6, 4-2 PacWest.
The Seasiders play again on Wednesday and visit Academy of the Art.
Seasiders’ Bailey gets PacWest honor
Freshman Braden Bailey of BYU-Hawaii men’s soccer was named Pacific West Conference Co-Player of the week for games played Sept. 19-25.
Bailey led the Seasiders’ offense, scoring five goals on six shots and helped lift his team to a 2-1 road trip to start conference play.
He earned his first career goal in a 5-0 shutout win over the Academy of Art, followed by four goals in a 6-1 win over defending PacWest champion Fresno Pacific.
Bailey netted a hat trick in a 13-minute span in the first half against the Sunbirds and his four goals tied a BYU-Hawaii record for goals in a single game, which was set in 1996 by Steve Lewis against Cal Tech.
Silverswords lose to Urban Knights
The Chaminade women’s soccer team came up short, losing to Academy of Art 3-2 to conclude their first mainland trip of the season.
The Urban Knights scored twice in the final 22 minutes, including the game-winner by Abi Chavez on a penalty kick.
Jordan Taboniar scored her first career goal in the 13th minute for the Silverswords and Lauren Uehara notched the second goal with 38 seconds left in the half.
Academy of Art earned its first win of the season, improving its record to 1-6-1 and 1-1-1 in the PacWest Conference.
Chaminade is 1-5 overall and 1-2 in PacWest play.
The Silverswords return home to face BYU-Hawaii on Saturday at Saint Louis field.
Chaminade men defeat Academy of Art
Curtis Coburn of Chaminade scored in the 55th minute to help lift the Silverswords to a 1-0 win over Academy of Art at Becah Chalet Soccer Field on Monday.
The victory is Chaminade’s second straight win this season and snapped a six game losing streak to the Urban Knights to improve to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the Pacific West Conference.
Academy of Art dropped to 1-6-1 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
The Silverswords return home and host BYU-Hawaii at Saint Louis field on Saturday.
