The UFC announced Thursday that it will reschedule its event in Manila, Philippines, scheduled for Oct. 15 due to Hilo’s B.J. Penn pulling out of the main event with an injury.
“I suffered a rib injury in training and I apologize to the fans in Manila who were expecting to watch me compete,” Penn said in a press release. “I hope to be back in the Octagon soon.”
Fighters scheduled to compete on the card will be rebooked in upcoming events and compensated due to the card being rescheduled.
Fans who have purchased tickets to the event should seek refunds at the point of purchase.
This was the fourth comeback attempt this year for Penn, who hasn’t fought since losing to Frankie Edgar in July 2014.
A former world champion at welterweight and lightweight, Penn was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame last year.
