A new farmers market opens on Rice Street in Lihue next week, Kauai County officials announced Wednesday.
The market will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday on the front lawn of the Historic County Building. Its regular hours will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We are pleased to offer a new farmers market in the heart of Lihue,” Mayor Bernard Carvalho said in a statement. “Our residents and visitors will soon have another venue to shop for locally grown fruits and vegetables, and the vendors will be able to expand their business. This is part of the vision for the Lihue Town Core Mobility and Revitalization Plan.”
Market patrons can park in the Lihue Civic Center parking lot across from the county building.

Water limits lifted on Kauai
The Kauai County Water Department lifted conservation measures for Kalaheo residents on Wednesday morning.
The restrictions were put in place Tuesday after a toppled tree cut off power to the area’s well site.
Residents and businesses were asked to limit water consumption to essential uses only, including cooking, bathing and flushing the toilet. They were also asked to refrain from washing cars, turn off automatic outdoor irrigation and sprinkler systems, and use water judiciously indoors and outdoors.
