University of Hawaii sophomore Camille Campos’s 6k time of 20:03.4 set a program record at Saturday’s Bronco Invitational at Sunnyvale, Calif.
It was the second consecutive meet in which Campos broke the school record, and her fifth personal best in as many meets. She finished in third place out of 170 runners, behind only Loyola Marymount’s Danielle Shanahan and Texas Tech’s Jocelyn Caro.
As a team, the Rainbow Wahine placed eighth out of 20 teams with 188 points. Southern Utah won the meet with a team total of 60 points.
HPU soccer teams fall to Cal Baptist
The Hawaii Pacific men’s soccer team fell to California Baptist 2-1 at Atherton field on Saturday.
Hugo Gutierrez got the scoring started for the Lancers (8-4-0, 4-3-0 PacWest) in the 24th minute with his first goal of the season. Josch Cuerten’s goal in the 50th minute tied the game up for the Sharks (2-5-4, 2-3-2 PacWest), but Aidan Apodaca’s score in the 80th minute proved to be the game-winner.
>> In the women’s matchup that followed, Cal Baptist prevailed 3-2 in a back-and-forth game.
Goals by Chaylin Couzens and Jordan Dow had the Lancers (5-4-3, 4-1-2) up 2-0 in the 20th minute, but consecutive goals from Kai Hasegawa and Noelle Mercado knotted the match up at 2. Isalei Tauaese’s goal in the 80th minute gave CBU the match for good.
Hawaii Pacific dropped to 2-9-1, 2-5-0.
>> The Chaminade men’s soccer team was routed by conference leader Dixie State (10-3-0, 8-0-0) 4-1 at Saint Louis field.
The Trailblazers used a team effort to down the Silverswords (5-5-0, 5-3-0) as Hunter Ketterner, Moises Medina, Ather Dawood and Christian Hall each scored. Guilherme Aires scored Chaminade’s lone goal.
>> The Chaminade women’s soccer team (2-8-1, 2-5-1) was overwhelmed by Dixie State, 5-0. Megan Spencer had a team-high two goals for the Trailblazers (8-5-0, 6-2-0). Alexis Torres, Darian McCloy and Shelby Christensen also scored for DSU.
>> Hawaii Hilo’s men’s soccer team fell 5-1 to Concordia (Calif.) at Paiea Stadium. The Eagles (6-4-2, 5-2) were led by Connor Gordon’s team-high two goals. Eric Torres, Isaac Gettis and Ether Bustos also scored for Concordia. Jake Sagami scored the Vulcans’ (1-10-1, 0-7-1) lone goal.
BYU-Hawaii swept by Concordia
The BYU-Hawaii volleyball team (4-15, 2-8) lost to Concordia (17-2, 8-2) 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 at the Cannon Activities Center.
Rachel Flynn led the Eagles with 15 kills, while Sinamoni Tonga (17) and Leilani Adolpho (15) combined for 32 kills.
>> The Hawaii-Hilo volleyball team swept Fresno Pacific 25-22, 25-17, 25-23 at Vulcan Gymnasium.
The Vulcans (6-8, 4-5) were led by Marley Strand-Nicolaisen’s 14 kills, while the Sunbirds (5-9, 3-7) were led by Karah Mitchell’s game-high 19 kills.
