For every thing there is a collector, and so it goes for pins released every two years by the Hard Rock Cafe.
This year’s 2016 Pintage Pin — the image of a surfer shark — will be up for purchase at Hard Rock Honolulu on Beach Walk in Waikiki. Pin aficionados (apparently there are such folk) will trade pins from other Hard Rock locations around the world.
What’s happening when (admission is free except as noted; buy your own food and drink):
>> Thursday: Cocktail reception for traders, 5 to 7 p.m. VIP admission is $40, which includes two drinks.
>> Friday and Saturday: Pin trading, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with limited-edition pins introduced each day. Also, Hard Rock collectibles will be sold at a silent auction with proceeds going to the Music for Life Foundation.
>> Sunday: Aloha Brunch, 10:30 a.m.

Alleyway dining comes to Waikiki
Waikiki Yokocho has set a Dec. 1 opening date for its collection of 16 Japanese eateries modeled on Japanese yokocho — the restaurants and bars clustered along alleys off the main roads.
The 23,000-square-foot space in the basement level of the Waikiki Shopping Plaza will encompass a Ramen Road, Noren Street (tempura and sushi) and Engawa Terrace (sweets). The location was formerly the Love Culture fashion store and before that a typical fast-food court.
Among dining options planned: Kushikatsu Tanaka (fried cutlet skewers), Nomu (Suntory whiskey cocktails), Shichimusubi (rice balls made with organic rice), Tonkotsu Kazan Ramen and Nana’s Green Tea.
