UNLV linebacker Tau Lotulelei, a 2012 Maui High graduate, was named the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the week on Monday.
Lotulelei, who walked on at UNLV out of high school, is the first Rebel to earn the award this season after his big game helped UNLV defeat Hawaii 41-38 on Saturday at Aloha Stadium.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pound senior had seven tackles with 11⁄2 tackles for loss and forced the game-deciding fumble late in the fourth quarter that set up UNLV’s winning field goal.
The victory was UNLV’s first in Hawaii since 2000.
Lotulelei, who was named to the All-MWC second team last season, leads the Rebels with 61 tackles in seven games.
Shiramizu earns second defensive honor
Pacific Lutheran sophomore Caylie Shiramizu was named the Northwest Conference defensive player of the week for the second time this season.
Shiramizu, a 2015 graduate of University Lab School, tallied 25 digs in a sweep of Willamette (Ore.) on Friday and came back with 17 digs in a win over Lewis & Clark on Saturday.
She ranks second in the conference averaging 5.82 digs per set.
The Lutes improved to 7-3 in the NWC after starting the year 2-6 in nonconference play.

>> Wesley Nagaseu, Waipahu ’13: The St. Francis (Pa.) senior linebacker scored on a 1-yard touchdown run and had three tackles with one for a loss and a fumble recovery in a 38-3 win over Bryant University on Saturday.
>> Solomon Leaeno, Campbell ’13: The St. Francis senior linebacker had a team-high eight tackles with two for a loss and a sack against Bryant.
>> Josiah Situmeang, ‘Iolani ’13: The Washington (Mo.) senior defensive end had five tackles with one for a loss in a 34-6 win over Sewanee on Saturday to help the Bears improve to 5-1 this season.

>> Mariel Galdiano, Punahou ’16: The UCLA freshman shot rounds of 76 and 74 before the third round on Sunday was canceled due to rain to finish in a tie for 34th place at 8-over 150 at the Stanford Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif.
>> Allisen Corpuz, Punahou ’16: The Southern California freshman shot a 3-over 74 and then a 77 to finish in a tie for 38th place at 9 over in the Stanford Intercollegiate.
