Patty Schremmer cruised to her second consecutive Hawaii State Women’s Golf Association members-only Stroke Play Championship on Wednesday at Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Schremmer opened with a 2-under-par 70 Tuesday. A 77 in the final round gave her an eight-stroke victory over Jeannie Pak, who closed with an 81.
Hawaii Golf Hall of Famer Bev Kim shot 80 both days to capture third by a shot over Yuki Abergas and Miki Young.
Young Sook Leskovec won A Flight with a net score of 138. The 18-handicapper shot rounds of 84-90.
Schremmer, a former LPGA player, turned 50 last year. She reached the semifinals of this year’s U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur (25-older) Championship.
Hawaii golfers going to Japan
The Hawaii State Junior Golf Association announced the 16 players who have earned the right to represent Hawaii at the 10th annual Asia Pacific Junior Cup, Nov. 8-10 in Miyazaki, Japan.
The Ryder Cup-style tournament was originally going to rotate between Hawaii and Japan, but the first nine were played at Waikoloa Kings’.
Girls representing Hawaii are Claire Choi (Punahou), Kamie Hamada (`Iolani), Miki Manta (Kalani), Allysha Mae Mateo (Maryknoll), Alanis Sakuma (Island Pacific Academy) and Malia Nam (Kaiser).
The boys team is Trevor Arashiro and Andrew Otani (`Iolani), Justin Arcano and Justin Ngan (Baldwin), AJ Teraoka and Jun Ho Won (Moanalua), Remington Hirano and Evan Kawai (Punahou), Zackary Kaneshiro (Mid-Pacific) and Shon Katahira (Waiakea).
Kapalua hosts Planos tournament
Kapalua’s Bay Course will be the site of the Gary Planos Endowment Tournament Nov. 14. The event will raise funds and awareness for the Evans Scholars Foundation.
Planos began his career as a caddie in Illinois and attended the University of Illinois on an Evans Scholarship. He came to Hawaii after graduation and eventually became Kapalua’s Director of Golf and Tournament Director of the PGA Tour’s Tournament of Champions.
Planos died in March at the age of 62. An endowed Evans Scholarship has been created in his honor. It will be awarded to a student from Hawaii to attend the University of Illinois.

Wailea raises $3,400 for charity
Nearly $3,400 was raised by Wailea Golf Club for the non-profit Folds of Honor as part of a statewide effort to support families of U.S. men and women in service.
The Aloha Section PGA, in partnership with the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce, designated September as Patriot Golf Month. Participating golf courses across the state, including all three courses at Wailea, organized special fundraising activities for scholarships for family members of wounded or fallen U.S. service men and women.
Wailea Golf Club’s efforts included a raffle for two Limited Edition Titleist Folds of Honor golf bags, special Folds of Honor par-3 contests on each course and donations received from customers.
Wailea Blue raised $1,291 and Wailea Gold & Emerald generated $2,106.59
HGRA sample sale coming up
Hawaii Golf Representatives Association’s annual winter sample sale will be Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9-11 a.m. at Washington Intermediate Cafeteria (1633 S.King St.).
Golf shoes, shirts and equipment, along with accessories and many other items will be for sale. Payment is primarily cash only, with some reps also accepting checks.
Ko Olina program offers lessons
Ko Olina’s next Get Golf Ready program begins Nov. 10. It offers five lessons for $109.
The program is designed to teach players all they need to know to start in the game. Rental clubs and range balls are free.
Ko Olina will also have its annual Holiday Sale Nov. 19, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items on sale include ladybug logo wear for men and women, shoes, socks, hats and other accessories.
The first 50 customers receive a gift.
