1. Wide Open
>> Situation: Air Force 20, Hawaii 13, 11:51 remaining fourth quarter, Hawaii ball, first-and-10 at Air Force 40
>> The Play: SB John Ursua gets open on a deep route and QB Dru Brown completes the pass to him for a touchdown.
>> Impact: The game is tied. Air Force dominated the rest of the fourth quarter but failed to score again.
>> Ursua: “Those catches, when you’re wide-open, are probably the toughest ones. I made sure I kept my eyes on the ball and my hands ready for the catch. I didn’t want to be the guy who drops one when he’s wide open.”
2. Miss
>> Situation: Air Force 20, Hawaii 20, 0:03 remaining fourth quarter, Air Force ball, third-and-11 at Hawaii 15
>> The Play: K Luke Strebel’s game-winning field-goal attempt goes wide right as time expires.
>> Impact: Strebel’s first miss of the season forced the game to overtime.
>> Hawaii special teams coordinator Mayur Chaudhari: “I think we might have gotten to him a little earlier. We got a piece of one of his earlier kicks and our jumpers were coming on.”
3. Brown To Kemp
>> Situation: Hawaii 27, Air Force 27, second overtime, Hawaii ball, first-and-10 at Air Force 25
>> The Play: WR Marcus Kemp gets loose from the coverage and Brown completes the decisive touchdown pass to him.
>> Impact: Brown and Kemp had also hooked up on Hawaii’s touchdown in the first overtime. Kemp caught six passes for 151 yards.
>> Kemp: “They gave me some throws, some good plays. I felt the coaches trust me and the offense enough to put us in the right position.”
4. Out Of Options
>> Situation: Hawaii 34, Air Force 27, second overtime, Air Force ball, second-and-7 at Hawaii 11
>> The Play: RB Shayne Davern is stopped for no gain by DT Sam Akoteu.
>> Impact: Air Force, which had completed just one of eight passes to this point is forced to consider passing instead of running with two downs to make 7 yards.
>> Hawaii defensive coordinator Kevin Lempa: “When they gotta throw, that’s when we win.”
5. Rogers That
>> Situation: Hawaii 34, Air Force 27, second overtime, Air Force ball, fourth-and-7 at Hawaii 11
>> The Play: CB Jalen Rogers is in perfect position to intercept QB Nate Romine’s pass attempted for WR Jalen Robinette, and does so to end the game.
>> Impact: Hawaii won at Air Force for the first time since 1992 and avenged a 59-7 drubbing at Aloha Stadium last year in improving to 3-1 in the Mountain West.
>> Rogers: “As soon as it was in the air it was over because I was in position to make the play. … I figured they’d go to him and I was thinking an out route, but he went for the back pylon and so I ran back and the ball was in the air.”
