Sugar closure costs consume A&B profit

    Costs associated with closing the last sugar cane plantation in Hawaii outweighed profits from Alexander Baldwin Inc.’s other operations, resulting in a quarterly loss announced Thursday. A&B said in January that it would shut down Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Co. on Maui. The final harvest is underway.
