A woman whom a state jury found guilty in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Waianae is going to jail for nine months.
A state judge handed Francine Marshall-Wun the jail term Thursday as part of a four-year probation sentence for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
Circuit Judge Shirley Kawamura also told Marshall-Wun that she is prohibited from driving during her probation.
The jury also found Marshall-Wun guilty in July of operating a vehicle without a valid driver license.
Witnesses found Robert Kapololu Jr. lying on Farrington Highway fronting the Waianae Taco Bell restaurant Sept. 16, 2014, after they said they heard a thump as a speeding pickup truck passed. An ambulance took Kapololu, 58, to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, where he later died.
Marshall-Wun, 48, testified that she was driving to Waianae Boat Harbor to deliver food she had bought for her children when she felt a bump. She said she didn’t stop because she didn’t see anything on the roadway in her rearview mirror and assumed she had hit a pothole.
Police said Kapololu may have been bending over and standing at least partially on the highway when he was hit.
