University of Hawaii senior Rigo Sanchez is a candidate for the Ray Guy Award for the second straight year.
Sanchez is among 66 candidates for the award that recognizes the top collegiate punter. He currently ranks 16th nationally, averaging 44.5 yards per punt.
This marks the third year in a row Hawaii has been considered for the award. Scott Harding was a semifinalist in 2014.
Chaminade sweeps Holy Names
Kira Long had nine kills and Daisia LaBrie added eight kills as Chaminade swept Holy Names 25-17, 25-13, 25-15 in a PacWest volleyball match on Monday at McCabe Gym.
Kim Spring added seven kills and Natashya Enos had 16 assists for the Silverswords (13-10, 7-7). Heather Emory had seven kills for Holy Names (1-22, 0-15).
Earlier on Monday, Spring was named PacWest co-player of the week. Spring had 18 kills and hit .472 in an upset of California Baptist last week.
Rainbow Wahine sailors finish fourth
The University of Hawaii sailing team finished fourth over the weekend at the PCCSC Fall Championships hosted by Stanford.
The Rainbow Wahine finished with 168 points with Annika Garrett, Annie Johnson, Danielle Ahir and Megan Zamzow competing in the A division. Cole Brauer, Caitlin Schadt, Jazlyner Rojas and Gianna Bailey sailed in Hawaii’s B division races. Stanford won the regatta with 53 points.
HPU Hall of Fame seeking applications
Applications are being accepted for Hawaii Pacific University’s Athletics Hall of Fame.
Candidates may be nominated as either student-athletes, coaches or administrators/support personnel. Student-athletes must have been separated from HPU for five years. Coaches must have served three years and administrators/support personnel must have contributed significantly to HPU.
